There’s not much you can do for dog walking on the long drive to the Owens Valley. It’s hard to make 700 miles shorter than a 12-hour day, so the dogs had to make do with little trips around parking lots and checking pee-mail in the ornamental shrubbery. Ramona does not concern herself with the itinerary on car trips. It’s enough for her to be in the car with everyone. But Jones has to maintain constant vigilance from his post between the seats. His usual routine at home includes plenty of napping, so by Susanville he was fighting to stay awake. He finally gave up and joined Ramona in the backseat for some shut-eye.
